A hunting incident in Cayuga County Friday leaves a Cortland man dead and his uncle facing a homicide charge.

Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies say it happened at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Salt Road in the Town of Summerhill.

The Cayuga County 911 center received a call at 7:46 in the morning saying a hunter had been shot.

Emergency Medical Services and Sheriff's Deputies responded to a wooded area approximately one mile south of Filmore Road and found the body of Ricky A. Huffman, 33. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say Huffman was deer hunting with Michael A. Hall, 49, on family owned property when he was shot by Hall. Huffman was wearing camouflage clothing and an orange knit hat.

Hall was arraigned on a charge of criminally negligent homicide and is jailed on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

No reduced bail for cousin who helped alleged killer

A judge yesterday denied a defense request to lower bail for a cousin of suspected cop-killer John "Jordan" Lewis, calling the cousin's alleged crimes "serious" and noting his "horrible" criminal history.

The cousin, Hakim Glover, 24, of Hunting Park, is accused of helping Lewis flee Philadelphia following the shooting death two weeks ago of Police Officer Chuck Cassidy. Glover remains behind bars on $1 million bail.

Glover waived his preliminary hearing yesterday before Municipal Court Judge Craig Washington. He was held for trial on charges of hindering apprehension and obstructing justice.

His defense attorney, Michael I. McDermott, said by phone yesterday afternoon that his client waived the hearing because the defense believed prosecutors had enough evidence at the preliminary-hearing stage.

Chapman, whose show “Dog the Bounty Hunter" is a popular A&E cable series, reportedly used the “N"-word several times and berated his son's girlfriend, who is Black, in a private conversation.

Crime Devastates Teens' Families

One of the latest homicides in Rochester has torn apart two Rochester families.

Deshequan Nathan,16, was arraigned Monday on a murder charge for the death of another teenager. Christopher Jones,16, was shot and killed over the weekend.

The families of both teens were in court Monday, when Nathan was formally charged with second-degree murder. Jones' family calls it senseless. His mother says he was a good kid. She called him an angel.

"He was so special. Made you laugh, he was quiet, didn't bother anyone, I know people say that about their children, but this is God's honest truth, my baby, he was a baby out of four," says Sirena Cotton, Jones' mother.

Police arrested Nathan in Lockport, New York Sunday. They say after he shot Jones on Lexington Avenue Saturday, he left the scene in a car they traced to a Lockport address.
